I get confused by discussions of Jamaica, Queens sometimes because I'm not sure of what people mean exactly, since there are a lot of neighborhoods in that area that seem to be lumped in with each other, and these neighborhoods vary a lot.
I understand that Jamaica, NY is an official designation by the post office for several Queens neighborhoods, however I'm not referring to that.
Is there a Jamaica proper neighborhood, or is it more like a collection of neighborhoods?
My aunt lives on Goethals Ave off of Parson Blvd, and she calls the neighborhood "Jamaica", however it looks like it's either Kew Gardens Hills or Hillcrest to be exact.

Any zip code with 114 can be referred to Jamaica, if you are talking about Jamaica, Jamaica I think its hillside ave to the north, linden ave to the south, van wych to the west etc.
Your aunt lives in Hillcrest or Jamaica hills, both have zip code 114 so they can just put Jamaica or the other two. It just isn't Jamaica, Jamaica.

I'm familiar with the 114 neighborhoods all being Jamaica, however that also includes Rosedale and Laurelton, which I don't hear people refer to as Jamaica. So I was asking about Jamaica, Jamaica

I'm sorry but I feel as if you won't even understand the answers that are being given to you. That's just how I feel.
Put it like this - Most people who call "Jamaica", "Jamaica," and are not specifically referring to Jamaica Avenue shopping district or Jamaica Center, do not live in a 114 zip code.
Like me for example, I'll call anything Jamaica that's pretty much Southeast Queens, with the exception of Howard Beach

All the 114 neighborhoods west of the Van Wyck really don't go by Jamaica as much as those on the east side of it. For example, no one in Woodhaven or Ozone Park would ever say they live in Jamaica like someone in Jamaica Hills or Rochdale would.
