Oh for some reasons I was unable to see the other pages of this thread. Well I will be working in the Financial District. And yes those neighborhoods are the only options I cited because both the rooms I found were the cheapest. I'm not renting a studio, it's a (legal) sublet in both cases. The WH room is more beautiful and a bit cheaper but the Flatbush ave one has more amenities (cable tv, terrace and a swimming pool apparently). I looked for the commute on google maps and it was more or less the same, Flatbush ave being slightly less long.

Its all about the reliability of the train service, the 5/2 train is famous for being crowded and unreliable.

"According to the New York Post, the worst trains at being on time were the 2 line, the 4 line, and the 5 line. The top three offenders only ran on schedule 30.6 percent, 32.7, and 32.8 percent of the time during weekdays" That was last summer, I doubt this summer will be different.
