Exactly....I mentioned it. Sorry if you don't know but most people who stay in hotels buy a case of water for their stay. Its very common. So yes I mentioned to the OP where they could buy a case of water, that was around the corner, easy, convenient, and affordable....Geeze man stop wearing those banana hammock thongs. They keep you too pinched and tight.
Well it's 2-1 for Whole Foods. I think BugsyPal and I know what we're talking about...
The OP never mentioned what they have budgeted for food and incidentals so some stores might not be in the price range for them. The range of options is good, though.
I do see all sorts of tourists stocking up on essentials at Duane Reade/CVS.

Any tourist visiting any place in the world does this, it is just common sense.
Do you have any idea the markup hotels charge on minibar or mini fridge items?
A bottle of water you can get from any store for maybe one dollar and some change is three or four dollars billed onto hotel if you drink that minibar bottle. In fact many places will bill a certain charge even if you don't use anything from minibar, but just open. They do this after getting wise to another tourist trick; people would consume whatever was in minibar, then go out and purchase same items cheaply elsewhere to restock. Thus when checking out claim they hadn't touched anything and shouldn't have to pay.
Hotels are like hospitals; nothing is *free*, but somehow built into the daily rate and or final bill.
I agree with the Whole Foods suggestion. That's where I would go to load up at the beginning of the stay. But I'm biased because I really like Whole Foods and would go to one in any city.
One other suggestion -- this is not a grocery store, and not really a place to go load up your mini fridge, but if you're looking for a high-end food court environment for a quick meal, check out the Plaza Food Hall at the Plaza Hotel, at the southeast base of Central Park. https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-plaza-food-hall-new-york Although you should check the hours because not all the places open in the morning.

Great suggestions everyone. Thanks. We are definitely are fine going out for some meals, I just don't want to go out every meal for 6 days. AFAIK, no microwave, which sucks. But yes to a mini fridge.
To the person who named the Japanese grocer, yes, that's the one. It's within a block. I guess we are more like 48th and Lexington

Thank you. Have been a couple of times before, love NYC. This one is a bit different. Daughter has a 1-week class during the day and I'll be working. Then the rest of the family comes in for 2 days before we fly overseas.

And do tell us about that case of water you didn't buy...
