So my advice to you, is to go buy a car, and then put random people in it
Practice what you preach
Let me know what you start finding in the seats
So i guess you are against carpooling?
If i buy i car i would carpool via Carpool World or Waze Pool. I live in NYC so there is no need to buy a car. I encourage it since it would be less cars on the road and also the car owner can make a little bit of money with the empty seats.
All humans are strangers at first.
Also, traveling via public transportation is a shared ride. Trains, buses, commercial planes, etc. You are sharing a space with a random person.
I only take Uber/Lyft if I'm desperate. I always take cabs. They know where they're going, they know how to drive on NYC streets (for the most part) and they have always been a huge part of NYC culture. Most of the cabbies I talk to say they do both now and NONE of them are optimistic about their future as cab drivers. Capping Uber/Lyft might help.

I've noticed this as well. Not knocking on anyone - it's great the opportunity is available for someone to show up here from wherever they came from and start driving / making money within a few weeks - but a lot of the newfangled Uber / Lyft drivers do not know where they are going and solely rely on the GPS. Nothing like a seasoned cab vet who knows where you're going and what the best way to get there is depending on the time of day. I've had Uber drivers ask me how to get to the airport before

Either that or they didn't have it on. Usually when you pay for an Uber, you receive the option of an Uber Pool, a regular Uber or a more higher end one. After you pick which one you want, then they show you the route that the Uber will take, and apparently they don't deviate from that. I had a meeting recently, and took an Uber from it. The wait was very short, but the guy insisted on following the route to a T, which I was not pleased with. I called myself trying to persuade him to go another way, but his English didn't seem to be that good, so I gave up.
I felt he could've went another way that wouldn't have required so much backtracking, BUT it seems as if Uber has your arrival time down to the minute. The app told me 15 minutes to my destination and it was spot on, so in that sense I was impressed. I wonder how accurate it is during rush hour though?
