That is exactly DeBlasio's justification, said on "Morning Joe".

I live in Spain where all legal residents have free healthcare. Of course I take it.

Private insurance here pays for some additional stuff (like dental) and I have that as well.

Personally I think it's foolish to pay for what you can get for free (though you may make too much money to qualify).

Old people 65 and above get free healthcare via medicaid. Anyone who is a soldier or a veteran gets free medical from the VA, as do their spouses.

Real estate taxes, in large part. Which is why the city supports gentrification.

And will always want to be in NYC in big numbers. Google and Amazon are doing huge expansions.

There you go!

If the Democrats recapture the Senate and the White House, we'll end up for medicare for all. So in that case, use your medicare card.

Why pay for what the government will pay for? Your taxes are going to be the same, so if you pay out of pocket you pay twice and are really just screwing yourself.

It does not apply to illegals. They are not here legally, are not US citizens or legal green card holders.

Universal health insurance would be a better approach. Even then, it's not for illegals. People will have to pay something towards it and be legal residents. I lean left and encouraging illegal immigration is just plain wrong.
Letting illegal immigrants into the country is no different than opening your front door and letting random people come in, eat your food, and then go make money somewhere, and not even pay you back for the couch or the fridge time

I agree with you 100%.

We saw the writing on the wall as far as what is becoming of life in New York State for those of us stuck in the middle. We got out almost 9 years ago, but it took us over 3 years to sell our home. Being self employed and working from home on a computer was a big asset as it allowed us to live anywhere we choose. Unfortunately, not everyone can do that. We still have family and friends back in New York and according to some of them they are existing and not living.

Most people can only get out after they retire, but if things keep going the way they are and universal healthcare succeeds in bankrupting the middle class they may not be able to sell their home as few will want to move there. The only people living there will be those who earn their living off of those who for whatever reason are stuck living there. The wealthy will probably be able to afford to stay as they can afford to pay high priced tax attorney's to find as many loopholes as they can along with investing in substantial tax shelters. Not only that but a lot of New York's politicians are bought and paid for by those very same individuals.

About the only thing that's keeping New York afloat is the financial industry. But that could change too as a lot of that work can be done remotely because of the internet. It wouldn't surprise me that in the not too distant future many of those jobs will be people working from home such as we are. In which case there really is no rational reason to want to remain in New York unless you don't mind being sucked dry living in a socialist welfare state.
