Perfect timing: mid August my AC stopped working this morning. Unit has power but no fan. I think the compressor will work but then, natch. it would quickly overheat.
First approx. thought: the fan condenser (one motor for both inside and outside fans.
I think the repair may be beyond me.
Can anyone recommend an AC repairperson he has used successfully (fair price, good work?)
Unit is 9 years old so I think it might be worth repairing, but I will scrap it if needs be. Oh WHY couldn't it have waited til the middle of September?
Honestly, I would be very surprised if you could get someone competent to fix it for much less than the cost of a new one (depending on size, $200-$500).

More like $600-$900. I need 14000 BTU's through the wall.
I went through the same this past June. The living room wall A/C is the only thing I didn’t replace when moving in, and it lasted me a year. I bought a 14k Frigidaire for $625 cash from a local appliance store. Had to pick it up myself and bring it home, bldgs maintenance worker installed it for $60.
Same thing happened to one of my window units. At 9 years old, I’d say toss and replace. It’s probably full of mold too. There are some great deals on Amazon and they will bring it to your door. I got mine on sale for $200 and it works sooo much better than my old one.
Proceed with utmost of caution. Electricity can be deadly.....................
The same thing happened to me a few years back. Bird nest fell onto my unit and a twig got caught up in the fan blade stopping it from spinning
and shutting down the unit. With power unpluggedand easy and safe access to unit do a visual inspection and try to see if you can manually
spin the fan blade ( if it's stuck.) A long wooden probe can suffice. I used a wooden spoon. Don't tell mama.Hahaha. If jammed and you free it that
will be great news. If it spins free but still doesn't work when powered on, then yeah, you'll have to have repaired or have replaced. Best of Luck.
