2 summers ago I was coming home from a night out at like 2am. I saw a Raccoon in the garbage in front of my building. This critter was as big as a 100 pound dog. I ran into my building, lol.

I saw one coming from the nearby school on my walk home from the bus stop one night about two years ago. We both stopped dead in our tracks and then I just started running!
Same thing that happened to Pomonok happened to Woodside
a lot of North Queens NYCHA fell off from 2000-2010.
Meanwhile South Queens NYCHA are slowly going private.
Mom grew up in Ravenswood. I took her back to see in spring 2020 and when we got up to the 4th floor (where her apartment was) the hallway had "Crip Life" written across it.
Sad.
The projects in Queens, sans Queensbridge, never used to be hot (at least as far as NYCHA goes).

That's b/c people feed them. I was in Riverside Park by the West Side Highway on 95th street eating halal chicken with rice. A fat raccoon casually jumped up on the bench next to me and assumed a begging posture. It had its paws cupped in a bowl shape and was bobbing its head up and down.
I threw it a piece of pita bread. The thing just looked at the bread then at the floor then at me again. Then tilted its head sideways with a look as if to say, "Seriously?". So I tossed it a piece of chicken and it yipped to chase the food. This thing was so fat its belly was literally dragging on the ground like some of those obese dogs you see sometimes on the street. Then I got up and walked away. I only threw it the chicken to get away. Those things have rabies. But apparently everything it was doing is a learned gesture from humans.
