wow, cool website. I live in Ridgewood...as others on this thread....got a 89. Not too shabby. Wish I could live in Park Slope....but Ridgewood will do.
My neighborhood (Midwood, Brooklyn) scored exactly 80. Given the criteria they use to determine "walkability," I don't understand why it didn't score somewhere around 95, because everything you could hope to find is within walking distance of my building. But it's still an interesting website.
Yeah I dunno how things are calculated..b/c my corner of Northeast Mott Haven scored an 88! Maybe it's proximity to transportation, the city, schools, major shopping districts? That would explain the good score in Mott Haven.
Well, something tells me that proximity to transportation is a pretty low priority in their calculations. I typed in an address on City Island Avenue, and the site gave it a score of 62. That takes into account that practically anything you might want to do on City Island is located along that street...but gives hardly any weight to transportation, since there's one bus route, period. If you needed to go from City Island to Manhattan, your options start becoming rather limited.
...the higher the number (0-100) the more "walkable"....
hence, 95 is a good number ....
I realize that. I was wondering why I wouldn't get a 100. being on columbia heights. I guess it too close to the promenade and too far from the subway or perhaps the lack of school. I'm curious. someone down around fulton or dumbo got a 100. I think mine should be a 100. In fact I'LL TAKE NOTHING LESS
My neighborhood received an 86. Too bad people would turn around and stare at me funny if I walked into some of the stores it listed lol...
Where do you live???
I got an 86 as well for Corona.
