This is the worst crackdown possible for the cops who will be forced to do it.

1. Involvement is about as close to 100% minority as a crime category in NYC can get.

2. The media and the overwhelming voting bloc of NYC don't consider this activity a "real crime".

3. Cops will be engaging them mostly as moving targets.

4. The perps will flee, most likely speeding, onto sidewalks, while not wearing proper safety equipment.

5. Innocent citizens and the perps will be injured.

Media Conclusion: cops targeting minorities, chasing them, leading to civilians being hurt/killed all for nothing. Cops are bad.

Better answer: roll up windows, turn on lights, follow slowly behind them while drinking coffee. Go home, maybe with a little overtime, retire asap. Let NYC reap what it has sown.

Something has to be done, these thugs have no care for our quality of life. Queens Crap: Critical mass motorcycle and ATV gangs dominate Astoria Park.

They'll have to do this more as an investigation / infiltration than a standard street traffic interdiction. They'll have to know where the skels are forming up, and then flood the area and cut off all routes of escape.

The resulting problem will be that this is considered a low level traffic offence. They'll get moving violations and maybe the vehicles will be impounded. What needs to happen, and won't is that either the city or state needs to make doing this en mass a felony with some non-trivial jail time attached. If a few of these skels end up doing 6 months to a year in Rikers, the others might think about doing it (or not, they're all pretty stupid.) But at least it will make it worth busting them.

It was real bad a few years ago. I’d see gangs of 50+. Not many so far this year. Just some here and there.

Also, that $100 per bike doesn’t sound like much, but I now a guy who knew a building they hid the bikes in. He reported it and it tuned out there were 17 bikes in there. He got $1,700 fior a phone call and the bikes were destroyed by being run over with a bulldozer.

Had a nice dinner at Clay in Harlem on the weekend and a group of these riders drove right by our table outside. Looks like nothing is really being done yet.

They cannot pursue them. They have to get them when they are stationary or parked somewhere on public property, and then they can confiscate them, and with so many of them all over the entire City, they are not going to get all of them overnight.
