Priced correctly (taking into account house would have to be raised, or demolished and new built), these properties usually sell. For many current owners of these cottages what they can now get for their homes doesn't begin to cover buying new elsewhere (even on Staten Island), so they're basically stuck.

.
Is this one priced correctly?

IMHO, nope!

Neither do many others it seems since property has been up for sale for a year or so without a nibble. This even with price chops.

Think about it; your essentially buying a property with nil to zero resale value (as is). Piled on you'll have to pay cash as no bank will touch it with a barge pole (again as is).

Good points? Property is a double lot, so in theory someone could buy that bungalow, tear it down and build a decent (but raised) sized house. How that pencils out though with seller asking north of $300k is another matter.

If you're in CT then why not go to Manchester? Prices are low over there.

You've actually jogged my mind about something.

But to answer your question first - I still would like to be close to NYC as close as possible with maintaining my suburban life - at least maybe in the future.

But anyways - I just realized, why move to New Jersey, when I can find a house here in CT that is close to NYC?

Where in CT are you? Fairfield County is the closest to NY but also the most expensive. It is vast and includes Bridgeport which is poor but affordable. Maybe Danbury? Everything else w/in 1 hour of NYC will be overpriced. I've looked.
