As far I understand it is the Republican Governor of Texas (and/or Florida) who is behind the bussing of these migrants from the border to NYC. So I think the Federal Government should be responsible for these migrants expenses rather than NYC.

I agree. But I thought it’s actually the city of El Paso (democrat run) that sent NYC the most migrants.
Either way. It’s time to evaluate the border. If we as a country cannot sustain the flood, then we should close the border.

We've done that before, in 1939. Didn't end well for most of the immigrants.

"As the M.S. St. Louis cruised off the coast of Miami in June 1939, its passengers could see the lights of the city glimmering. But the United States hadn’t been on the ship’s original itinerary, and its passengers didn’t have permission to disembark in Florida. As the more than 900 Jewish passengers looked longingly at the twinkling lights, they hoped against hope that they could land.

Those hopes would soon be dashed by immigration authorities, sending the ship back to Europe. And then, nearly a third of the passengers on the St. Louis were murdered.

Most of the ship’s 937 passengers were Jews trying to escape Nazi Germany. Though World War II had not yet begun, the groundwork for the Holocaust was already being laid in Germany, where Jewish people faced harassment, discrimination and political persecution. But though the danger faced by the passengers was clear, they were turned down by immigration authorities, first by Cuba, then the United States and Canada. For many on the St. Louis, that rejection was a death sentence.

A State Department official telegraphed the passengers, telling them that they “must await their turns on the waiting list and qualify for and obtain immigration visas before they may be admissible into the United States.” Though Roosevelt had considered a concerted push to rescue Jewish refugees the year before the St. Louis sailed, he eventually dropped the idea, both because he knew it would be politically unpopular and because of his increasing focus on the looming world war."

This is apples and oranges as these migrants are not being persecuted simply for being themselves.

I'm sympathetic to venezuelans as they could be a powerful voting bloc against the Dems. They know first hand the reality of socialism. Legalization of their status while excluding others could send them to the GOp much like the Cuban way

“We hope this new policy by the U.S. government reduces the flow. Word had gotten out that (the U.S.) was transporting migrants to other cities in the United States. This generated a surge: people heard about it and were coming over,” Perez Cuellar said. “Things will probably get better in the next few days [….] But very likely there are still people on the way.”

“We’re telling people not to turn themselves in” to the U.S. Border Patrol, said Jorge, a Venezuelan standing in disbelief on the Mexican banks of the Rio Grande after getting expelled to Juarez. “This is a sham. The president of the United States told Venezuelans to come. [….] We came here before the announcement. We were detained and they expelled us.”

Didn't our mayor claim, only a few months ago, that we have the means to take care of these people?

I think that in the US, most Americans think socialism is a dictatorship or an authoritarian regime. No, they are different definition. Norway is socialist, it's not a dictatorship. Venezuela is a dictatorship, they are not socialist.

Both Norway and Venezuela get revenue from the oil and use that revenue to finance social welfare programs in the country. But Venezuela essentially nationalized the country's oil resources and frustrated US companies. That's not socialism though, simply nationalism.

In essence, Venezuela = Norway + authoritarian regime + corruption != socialism or even communism at this point.

Hmmmm too bad our hands are tied to use our own oil to support good social agendas.

He probably never imagined a continuous stream of migrants being bussed here on a daily basis.
