With so many transplants coming to live in the city. And also due to the fact that so many native New Yorkers are moving out already.

I've always been interested in the city ever since I took a school trip there 7 years ago. And I still have this weird feeling everytime I see a video or something about it. Like I should be there but I do not know. But as much as I would like ot be immersed in the culture, so to speak, it seems it's changed a lot since I last been there based on what I'm seeing.

So I wanted to ask, do you guys think it's still the city it once was or do you think its changing for the worse? I haven't been back since then, but i would love to visit again to get a good feel of what I really want out of the experience. Possibly make a move. Maybe that's just me with rose colored glasses, but who cares...

There's already been a shift, so nothing to fear. It's happening and it sucks, but whatever.

Compared to the 90s-early 2000s, it sucked 7 years ago.

So that may answer your question.

100's of thousands leaving NY every year. 100's of thousands of illegals moving in. Check back in 10 years.

There shouldn't be much of an issue regarding cultural change, because the one thing stable is cultural changes. There is nothing that can be done about that, so why worry about it?

Where the change is taking the culture can be debated and whether people like the new elements being added to the culture while other elements are being forgotten. But cultural change in itself? There are more important things that you can impact by worrying about them than cultural change itself.

Case in point, many of the older people think the music of the young is garbage. Guess what? That has always been the case regardless of the music types. Older people are not too keen on the music of the younger folks. Guess what will happen when the now younger folks become old and the then younger folks are people of a newer generation? Rinse and repeat.

Maybe the next young generation will bring back Swing and the Big Band Era will be reborn.
