Well, I pay 2100 for 2 bedrooms. I paid no broker no nothing and the apartment comes with a backyard and a storage room. It's a rare deal, but they exist.
In walk-up buildings around mine, 3,500 will get you a nice, renovated 3-bedroom apartment.
We've got the Times Square subway two blocks away. No need to move to the Far Upper East Side!
I wouldn't follow what Nick says. He is way too pessimist and sad.
This lady has to live where schools are best, not near Times Square and not in Hell's Kitchen. That'd be the Upper West Side, some areas in the Village and the Upper East side, if she does, indeed, want to live in Manhattan. So, Manhattan-ite, while your place in Hell's Kitchen sounds like a steal, this person won't get away with that, most likely.
It's not as bad as NickL28 portrays it, but it's not as easy as Manhattan-ite does, either. I've lived in Manhattan my entire life (except for college) - it's not a cheap place, but where else is everything right there at your doorstep?
That's very right- there's a happy medium. And as you say, where else do we have the world at our feet? Only in New York!
If it's about good schools and big spaces, he or she may want to move to Tribeca. The famously good PS 234 is there.
