I haven't been here that long. I'm wondering when it starts to "warm" up...and how long it stays that way. I realize that the summers are brutal..but that's not my main concern...I just want to know when I can wear my flip flops lol. So basically...when does it get above 50ish and until about when does it stay that way? April thru October? Any natives?

Where above 50 today, and may hit the 60's on the weekend, but in general, things start to get noticeably better(above freezing) late March/early April

Usually right around now it gets more bearable, with real "Spring" mid-April'ish.

Flip flops in Manhattan have always skeeved me out though (shudder)

To me April can be brutal. We start to have a few warm days but it's not consistent at all.A 60 degree day can be followed by snow the next day almost like a cruel joke.Even in early May we can have very chilly days and possible snow, though that is rare. In my mind we are not totally out of the woods 'till the 2nd week in May or so.

And don't worry too much about the summers. The weather in the last 25 or 30 years has been completely different from the way it used to be. Yeah, it'll get hot here in the city. But we don't get the same kinds of two- or three-week-long stretches of that unbearable heat and humidity like we used to. (Similarly, we don't snow like we once did, either. What fell here this past Monday was hardly even worth considering).

I'm with you about the flip flops. It is too disgusting.
