I took the test for the electrical helper signals 2 years ago i recently got a letter saying i should come in for a pre interview laboratory assessment does anyone know how the process work or what to expect when i go in.
Lab assessment = drug test. You will go down to 180 Livingston Street and sit there for as long as it takes (up to three hours) for you to give them a specimen, and drink the bottled water that they give you, if need be.

...Although of course you can always cut down on the specimen delivery time by drinking plenty of water before you get there!
thanks for getting back to me ,the reason i ask is i dont see out of one eye very well,im 20/20 using both eyes and dont have issues with colors nor depth perception but as a result of a scrathched retina one eye is extremely weaker than the other.
Don't worry; no opthalmologists will be testing you. MTA employs people who'll probably be wearing white lab coats--and everyone routinely addresses them as "doctor." But I've never seen any actual diplomas hanging on the walls of their offices. At worst, you'll be told that you have to wear eyeglasses (as I do). As long as your color and depth perception are OK, the eye exam shouldn't be a concern.
Talking about expectations...here's something else a lot of people aren't prepared for, and it comes as a bit of a shock.
When you first come out, you won't have anything like a regular schedule. You'll be what's known as 'extra extra.' Not only will you work different lines each day, but because you haven't had the opportunity to pick something, the Crew Assignment Office can change your tour (AM, PM, midnight) and days off. It doesn't happen often, but you should be prepared for the possibility.
And when you finally are able to pick something, remember that selecting jobs isn't the only thing that goes by seniority. So do picking days off and vacation time. In other words, get ready for the fact that you won't see either Saturdays or Sundays as your days off, and forget about summertime vacations. Of course, with time you'll move up and these things will be available to you. But you'll have to be patient.
Newbie here and hopeful future NYC train operator. I was wondering- would I be disqualified or put on "investigative/hold" for having been arrested one time- 7 years ago for possession of pot? A passenger in my vehicle had a small amount of pot in his possession and we were all arrested. I was not charged with anything. I have a disposition.
I also have two moving violations on my driving record from 1 year ago and 4 years ago- mobile phone and failing to yield for a traffic device.
Who does the background investigation?
