Consider yourself lucky.

In comparing the four largest cities in the US, we are awakened to a happy comparative reality: Houston is a great deal. Anecdotally, most Houstonians accept this as fact. Although I am not brave enough to compare cost of living analysis to bargain shopping, there is something very satisfying in knowing you are getting more, for less.

I am quite aware that I am sounding like a commodity product commercial, but I dare challenge anyone asked what they like about Houston not too mention affordability.

Can the difference be quantified?

Your point is? There are plenty of places in Upstate NY in which you can buy similar properties for the same price, if not less than what you can get in that area.

Any article equating home prices elsewhere against NYC/downstate/L.I. prices have NO relationship to
prices for homes and property upstate. As an example..there's a place nearby....200+ acres, woods, large pond, tillable fields, well kept older home, inground pool, large garage, barn in nice shape....that went for $400,000.

To compare Houston values to upstate NY is unrealistic. Although comparable prices may be found the economic engine that is Houston does not exist upstate. There may be pockets but not a broad swath that creates/supports towns like Sugarland.

I understand that, but the post was put on the General NY forum and I realized that it was in comparison to NYC. Can you compare Houston to NYC as well?

My statements were more towards your comments. Metro Houston is not metro NYC and as we all know the housing costs there are beyond ridicules. Even with NYC being what it is they have made living more of an existance for most. But hey to each his own....

I know, but my point was that if he is putting the article in the General NY forum, to me, he is making it seem like the whole state is expensive, when it really isn't even in comparison to the Houston metro.

Also, my other point was that to compare really anything in to NYC doesn't make sense, to be honest. It's really it's own animal.

I agree with ckhthankgod; they are comparing apples and oranges. NYC is in a class by itself: museums, Broadway, high class restaurants, shopping, etc. The weather in Houston and NYC are completely different too. IMO another CNN useless article.
