I have noticed that most of my friendships resulted from the routines in my life: work, church, school, children, pets, general interests and activities, etc. It's usually a matter of seeing the same people over and over, having a chance to observe them, and casual chit-chat. That's pretty hard to do if you don't have any kind of routine. Casual friendships are pretty easy and usually remain in the venues of common interest. Deep friendships require more patience and commitment and a willingness to go beyond the comfort zone of common interests.
