I never celebrate my birthday, it's just a reminder of being born, the worst that has happened to me. My mother, my brother and friends also never fail to bother me about it but I usually stay at home on that day.
As a general rule, we try to leave town for my birthday. Otherwise, my mother will want to have some kind of big to-do. For my 50th, I made sure we were as far out of town as possible, namely a rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Mind you, anybody who's ever known me would say, "You? A rodeo?" But it was a blast. But my mom and siblings were a trifle annoyed that I wasn't in town to celebrate.
I celebrate for more than a day, lol, as in "This is my birthday week, so you have to be nice to me!". I announce "it's my birthday today!" the same as when I was a kid. I am so grateful to still be here, and to have my family and friends to celebrate with.
Not really, but not because I'm mopey. It's just that my idea of celebrating is a quite night at home, eating cake and not making dinner People think I'm depressed about getting older. Nope, not the case!

My mother always insists on baking a cake even though I've asked her not to.
