Before, I didn't. I guess I do now simply because I can be home for it. 1998, I was in jump school in the Army. 1999, I was in Kosovo. 2000, Korea. 2001, Pakistan, preparing to go into Afghanistan. 2002, the oilfields of Louisiana. 2003 and 2004, Iraq. 2005 and 2006, New Orleans, post-Katrina. 2007 I was home for, 2008 and 2009, I was working in South Africa. 2010, I was home for, but ended up spending the night in lockup after relieving myself on a building which I didn't realize at the time was the county courthouse.
So I suppose it's more a matter of celebrating being home for it than anything else.

It varies from year to year. John buying me a Fugi ten speed bike for my 28th. That's when I knew I had to marry him. We were on trips for a couple of the better ones. Sting Ray city comes to mind in the Cayman islands for my 36th. Swimming with the dolphins with friends in Puerto Villarta for my 40 something. I can't remember which one now. A cruise for my 40th on the next day after a party was fun. My 50th fantasy Thanksgiving party was a blast. Skiing on my birthday is always fun. There have been so many fantastic birthdays and so many low key it's no big deal birthdays. I'll tell you one thing though I will never be at work that day. Sometimes I just want a pizza, my favorite champagne, just the two of us and my dogs on the sofa watching a movie.

I'd thank you for your service but it seems more appropriate to say may god bless and keep you in his care. That the dates don't entirely line up is between you and him.

Dave Barry once made the observation: There's an age at which you should stop celebrating your birthday, and that age is eleven.

He was right.

I'm 22.

I pretty much stopped celebrating my birthday when I was 16. I totally lost interest in birthdays after that age. My parents encouraged to celebrate my birthdays but I was like "nah, enough is enough".

The only celebration I like is counting the number of people who call to either say happy birthday or
SING it over the phone.

You have to have a cake so you can get your birthday wish when you blow out the candles.

My birthday is my favorite holiday. I have a number of friends whose birthdays are close, and when we can, we celebrate the month of our astrological sign.

I'm thankful the night in lockup was the result of city cops with a sense of humor, and not the County Sheriff's deputies.

Yes, I celebrate my birthday. I usually buy myself something I've been wanting. I may do that again the next day, and the day after that...
