I have one online friend that is 3,000 miles away. Apart from that, I have a series of acquaintances who are basically people I either work with or clerks at stores I frequent. I honestly never had very good social skills so making friends has always been difficult.

I have a very dear friend who lives about 400 miles north of where I live. I have a friend who lives in my same town. I have many acquaintances who are friendly.

Animals 9 dogs and 6 cats.
Then there's my two boys snuggled together under the covers. So cute.
I saved the best for last. My John the love of my life now and forever.

I'm truly loved and it's an honor I don't take lightly.
If they're not shorties (kids?) and not animals, who are the boys under the covers???

Counting my husband, I would say I have 8 friends who I know would come to my rescue, no questions asked, if I needed them. I probably have a dozen other people I would look forward to spending a day with, chatting and hanging out.

I consider myself very lucky.

True Friends: 4

Everyone else is just an acquaintance or, even more simple, a colleague.

Okay, now I'm looking through my FB friends list, because I'm feeling like an anomaly reading these posts.

I have 309 FB friends. They are all people I have known IRL at some point in my life. About 30 of them are family (not counting them below). Here are some estimations based on my FB list:

I'm not really sure how people are defining "friends," but I have:
  • 2 who are my "best" friends
  • About 20 who I think I could count on to drop everything if I had an emergency and needed help (if distance weren't an issue, and I would be willing to do the same for them)
  • Another 20-30 or so who would be willing to help me with a non-urgent favor (again, if distance weren't an issue, and I'd be willing to reciprocate)
  • About another 40-50 more are people who I would invite to a party, go out to dinner with, enjoy spending time with if we were at a social gathering, etc. Not necessarily close, but we enjoy each other's company when the opportunity arises.

Two very close friends back home in Germany. We text about once a week. Skype maybe twice per year. I know them since 20 years.

One very close friend in Virginia. Even though we are 20 years apart and she is black, she calls me her little sister. We email several times per week. Havent seen her in 4 years.

4 friends here in my town. 2 German women and 2 guys. We meet about once a month.
2 party friends. Americans.

That's totally enough.

I think it gets harder to bond with new people when your older, those type of friendships usually happen back when you were younger back in your college days or time in the military.

I dont think it's common for middle aged or older people to make friends that late in life, maybe just casual acquaintances.
