I think it gets harder to bond with new people when your older, those type of friendships usually happen back when you were younger back in your college days or time in the military.
I dont think it's common for middle aged or older people to make friends that late in life, maybe just casual acquaintances.
True.... I have a lot of casual acquaintances, just no close, true friends. ZERO.
Two close friends, a number of acquaintances I could count on should I need them (need a ride, they'd give me one, etc.... and I would do the same), and a number of other acquaintances I could catch a movie with, and then just random acquaintances I'm friendly with.
Friends? Less than 15. Acquaintances? Hundreds, mostly people I met in college and grad school.
