My husband is from North Carolina, and his name is Tommy on his birth certificate. Up here in the Northeast, people always call him "Tom" or "Thomas", and he always corrects them and says, "My name is Tommy." I love his name and don't find it babyish. BTW, my hubby is almost 60.
I wouldn't say it's common in my neck of the woods for adults to still go by their childhood nicknames, but I would much rather go by Tommy, Bobby, Timmy, etc as an adult than have to go by Baron, Skylar, Braydon, Tristan, Jayden etc or any of the many other horrible boys names that are floating around out there at any age.
What if that's what they were actually named, like for real? I know someone named Billy. His name is actually BILLY! Not William. Not Bill, but Billy. Odd, I know.
Don't forget "Tiny". Generally, you don't want to f with Tiny.
