Co-worker needed to borrow money, but wanted me to Western Union it to her.

I've gone to school with and worked with moochers. I found if I just say "No, can't help ya" a couple times they go freeload off someone else.
Whether it's 25 cents, $1, Kleenex. hand lotion, gum, whatever - it's MOOCHING. There's something called self-sufficiency and some people need to become familiar with it.
I never was a moocher/beggar so I never had to worry about paying someone back. If I was 10 cents short at the vending machine, I did without. If someone insisted on putting in 10 cents for me, I paid them back immediately. But the choice was theirs - I didn't ask.
I never give anybody cash. I've bought a homless guy a burrito, and I've given away beer, easter peeps, cold pizza, and once gave away a used car to a member of a co-op I was in.
And I gave a guy like this a small bottle of tequila.

That's a common scam, modern version usually involves text/chat/email. OP wrote "I get a call the other night from a co-worker/sometime hangout buddy while I was at home".
Sounds like a phone call from somebody who would know the mooch's voice and speech mannerisms, not easily spoofed?
im glad that you didn't do it but think about this: You were about to give someone money who throws people under the bus and alot of people don't trust her; yet, you were this close to give her money.
I made the mistake of lending $1 to a co-worker so she could get a snack. This was maybe eight months ago. No payback. Of course, she hasn't asked again.
Never again, not even a dollar.
That's such a small amount that it's possible he or she forgot. Possible?
Possible, I don't really care. Just sort of irks me. A dollar is a dollar. My mistake to loan it to her.
