If she were signing you up publicly as a supporter of National Right to Life or Planned Parenthood and it was the opposite of the way you feel you have a perfectly solid objection to what she did. Nobody should have their name associated with a political position they object to without their permission.
This was best wishes for a holiday concert! How controversial is that? Do you really worry that someone's going to see the ad and thing, "What a jerk! He supports the singing of Christmas carols"?

I am a little surprised how few people here are capable of approaching this logically.
You don't speak for someone else, publically, using their name without their consent. Period.
Details about who, what, where, and when are irrelevant.

Call me a "grump" or a "scrooge" all you want, I simply don't care for all the cheesy nonsense that goes along with the holidays, and those who fail to understand that are probably your typical sheep that fall for all the marketing and commercialism, and blindly celebrate xmas. Keep swiping those credit cards! As was said, these people have an emotional attachment to Christmas and just can't understand. What she did is contrary to my beliefs, so YES - the more I think about it the more I believe it is an issue. It will be handled accordingly and appropriately.

At least MIL could have asked if it was okay to do this. I understand you being irritated by this. Why didn't MIL put her name on it?
I know my mother would have been angry about this if it happened to her. I would be too, but would try to forget it. Maybe say something if this or something similar happens in the future.

Well if that is what you want, do it. It just seems you are really triggered by the Commercial side of Christmas which many of us grew up with, and have fond memory. It was some of the best family times of my youth. I'm not a huge fan of Christmas carols either, but if carolers come to my home, I'm not going to throw snowballs at them.
