Games are great if everyone is on the same page that it's just a game.

I have family members who are hyper-competitive. Games can become mini-battlefields, with people getting mad and feelings hurt.

I stopped playing a long time ago unless I know the players will remember that the point is to have fun together.

Depending on where I'm at. Find common ground or hunker down in my phone is what I do.

OP, you haven't been back to weigh in, but if you're still reading - do yourself a favor. Learn the art of conversation. Learn how to steer it, jump into it when you don't know much about the subject matter, and how to ask questions in order to expand your knowledge. The world doesn't revolve around you and won't adjust, so you'll have a lifetime of finding yourself in situations where you feel uncomfortable if you don't.
