As you probably know, some of my high school friends stopped being friends with me. Some posters gave the explanation of "They realized they don't have much in common with me."

But what's that supposed to mean?

If we were friends in high school, clearly we had something in common. If we didn't have much in common, don't you think we would realize that right away? Why would someone not realize until college that they don't have much in common with their high school friends?

Making new friends in college, I understand that part. But just because someone makes new friends doesn't mean they suddenly have nothing in common with their high school friends.

Default Time and tides shift us all...

Happened to me. People sometimes just drift apart."Things" in common vs. values, and plans for the life beyond. Lifestyles and circumstances change, sometimes moment to moment. I had 5 friends from High school and beyond. We too had many things in common, on a material level. We never had a falling out but out of the 5 only 2 still remain for me personally. It is not your fault.

My advice is make new friends, but cherish the old who may remain in your life. Don't fight change, embrace it and understand it make it an opportunity to grow.

I'm in a similar situation. I find that when I hang out with some of my HS friends, it just doesn't feel the same as when I was back in HS. People change so that's probably what happened.

You're right, it's not my fault.

I've been in college for 2 years and I've made friends. But I would never dream of ending perfectly good high school friendships.

Sometimes it's shocking which people decide they don't want to be my friend anymore (the type of people I would never expect to stop being my friend).

The only times I stopped being friends with a high school friend is when we were never close friends in the first place (or we were friends but got into a fight).

I have a friend since grade school, we hardley speak our lives went in different directions, but we often randomly pick up the phone a couple times a year to catch up - nothing more.

I have a friend I was very close to in high school and we seriously have nothing in common anymore and her personality is completely different.

Life moves on. Sometimes, I wonder if you might need a 12 step program on letting go.

You've been out of high school a lot longer than me.

As long as me and a former high school classmate are both in college, that's something in common (even if we go to different colleges).

I can understand people changing if they've been out of high school for a long time (and no, 2 years is not a long time).

You are making an assumption. These things took place within the same year as graduating.

Recently had my 30 year reunion.
We all went our own ways for many years, but we all started to come back together about 10 years ago.
The people I was friends with are still my friends, the other ones......who cares?

On the first day of senior year, one of my (former) friends said "nice girl pants"

In response, I said "Yes, they're very nice."

They were actually tight guy pants.

But he stayed friends with me during senior year.
