People are in search of a better way of life, and it isn't just Americans. There are an influx of immigrants all around us, and it just seems to push and shuffle all the "locals" out of those areas.
Didn't everyone from America come from someone who immigrated to America in search of a better way of life? White couples came from ancestors seeking this same thing. Why is it different for blacks, russians, asians, mexicans, middle easterns?......
No, it really isn't any different.
The value of these forums is for people to get the whole story about a potential move, not just to be courted by real-estate agents. I can't tell you how many times I have talked to recent immigrants since moving to NYC, who are sorely disappointed. Many really think that all American's are rich and that there is just money for the taking everywhere. They see media images and believe they are real. I work in a university that is rated as the most diverse public college in America, so I see this a lot. I talked to an 18 year old Egyptian kid recently. He said, "I thought it was easy in America. I didn't know I would have to work like this."
Go in to any move with your eyes and ears open.
Unfortunately, you can do all the research and visit several times but until you actually go and live somewhere for an extended period of time there really isn't anyway to know with 100% certainty that things will be as you want them too, more so in a place like NC now with all the growth - things constantly are changing and while you can move there (like many went to FL) love it and be happy for a yr or so but then something happens and you don't like it anymore...As has been stated, there is no perfect place, there are pros and cons in everything, you just have to hope then where you are the pros outweigh the cons - I personally cannot move around my entire life looking for the better place - but there are those who always will -
There is such a thing as a Black Russian. Not what you think. They are actually Jewish. Guy who cuts my hair is a Black Russian. Looks Greek or Italian but Jewish and speaks Russian.
