One would think the water in NC would be better then say NY or NJ. I would assume it was less polluted or they have to use less "chemicals" to purify it.

This is not related to NC but on a similar topic. When we moved to Central PA for a year, I learned how to make my own pizza! Sorry the food there was bland and the pizza TERRIBLE.

I've lived in a few places and NY pizza IS the best. However, when I lived in England, the frozen food (of all things) and supermarket choices, even in our small town, were AMAZING! The bakery was fabulous at the Tesco's (supermarket) or Sainsbury's.

I agree, enjoy what you can get where you live, and when you visit, go for the bagels. (we have lame bakeries here..I just go to Stop and Shop when I want bread or muffins.)

I have heard the same thing about baked goods and pizza being better from NY, NJ, Philly, etc. because of the water. I am from CA, but from Italian CT parents, so I know about good food from my summer vacations back east. In CA people don't eat Italian Ice or get to experience good pizza. I never really thought about bakeries until now and I can't think of a good one in CA. We don't go out to diners either. Or have Dunkin Donuts. But, I am still missing my comfort foods of home. I just now realize it may be easier to adjust to NC if you aren't from a place where you are accustom to good food!! Maybe there are good places in NC, but it really doesn't seem to be the state for a culinary experience except for biscuits and BBQ. I have never cooked so much at home in my life.

It might be better for drinking, but not for pizza making

My sister lived in Kentucky for a while and when my dad went out to visit her he had "our" pizza place par-cook a few pies, my dad froze them and brought them with him to her so she could finish cooking them there. You would have thought he brought her a million dollars. LOL. As good as it is, my husband is so willing to give up the pizza for good barbecue. And I think I could get used to those delicious biscuits in place of italian bread.

I wonder if coffee tastes different too, many think the coffee is tast but 90 something percent of coffee is water -
NYC has the best drinking water of anywhere I have ever lived, hands down.
The water toward the NC coast is really awful. In the mountains where I used to live, they had good water until the reservoirs dried up. They are on wells now and it is really bad. My mom only drinks bottled water there.

It comes from upstate. Many visitors are surprised by the quality.
It truly is the best...as long as you have good pipes! In Queens we got chunks of rust for a few years!!!! Eventually the building did some work on 'em and it was great.

Yea, I have been lucky with good pipes. I lived in a high rise in Manhattan ( hospital housing) and now in a building only 3 years old in Brooklyn.
