I guess that pan-seared sashimi tuna I had yesterday on Water Street wasn't "real seafood". Nor was the grilled red snapper and grits, the catfish stew, the shrimp and grits, the Crawfish boil, or the She-Crab Soup I've had lately. Next time I'm in New Jersey, I'll have to ask them to make me some "real seafood".

I didn't write this for you to get your feelings hurt about my comment, I guess I needed to clarify what I meant by "real seafood" I like knowing that my seafood is brought in fresh daily, that it is not frozen! I hope that makes you feel better! Have a blessed day!
All these folks yearning for their NY/NJ style pizza and bread and bagels...you'd think a saavy transplant would open a bakery/pizzeria.
South,
Oh, you are sooooo right.
However, Judy doesn't think I'm too savy.
Too old to.
Guess I'm just putting off making the bread myself. If I'm retired there is no reason no to cause I do like to cook.
I have a dog so anything that isn't all that "nice" tasting. Here boy Daddy has something for you.
Thanks
Dennis
I've tried their bread, not a huge fan. It's not bad just not the same... Even if their were a deli to open up I think it would taste different because of the water.
SRH,
Heard that before about the water ..... also some things about altitude and humidity.
So, guess I'll have to get off my lazy butt and learn.
AND IF I CAN'T GET NY/PHILLY/JERSEY PRODUCTS......................TOUGH.
I need NC......................that's all.
Dennis

Oh that's fine, no feelings hurt. I just didn't make the connection that when you said North Carolina didn't have real seafood, you were actually referring to the fact that you live far from the coast.
I agree that fresh seafood is far superior to frozen. You should make a trip down east to the coast, we have plenty of fresh seafood!
We had a discussion about NY pizza throughout the state some weeks ago. You can do a search but in my book it is Tony's Pizza. I think there are nine or ten of them about the area. We have one in Hickory and it is PRETTY GOOD STUFF!
Sorry, can't help you on the bread. My favorite bakery in Marion closed.

I can't wait to check out the N.C. beaches, I haven't been yet, I have been to Myrtle Beach and really didn't care for the younger crowd. It seems like a party area, not so much a family oriented place.
Would you say that there are quiet beaches in N.C?

I'm from South Carolina, and rarely went to NC beaches until recently. If you're absolutely filthy rich, you could afford somewhere like Figure Eight Island in Wilmington, DeBordieau near Georgetown, Kiawah Island near Charleston, or some of the fancier places down near Hilton Head.
For the rest of us, my favorite is Holden Beach; a quiet, low-key place, between Wilmington and the SC border. I'm sure there are plenty of other good ones in NC that I haven't visited. SC has quiet ones, like Pawley's Island, Edisto, Litchfield, etc. Myrtle Beach is a zoo, the only reason I ever go is for the House of Blues. A quick search in the NC or SC forum will yield lots of information, although I find that people consistently give beach advice that I personally disagree with.

The beaches on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks are beautiful. We have gone for many years. I'm guessing they may be about 5hrs from Charlotte though.

Thanks for the great info. I really miss the beach, that is definitely a draw back to living inland however I am lucky to be away from the storms. I will take a look at some other forum info on beaches and check out the info. Thanks a bunch for the feedback.
It is the water. I tried to make my own pizza when we first moved here 4 yrs. ago from So. NJ and it just didn't taste the same. Our Lowe's Foods here in Greenville have been getting Anthony's bread from Denville NJ and baking it, but I have to bake it more when I get it home. Lowe's has been getting a lot more mixed imported Italian food, as we have noticed a big influx of Italian's moving into our area. When we go back to visit family, I fill up a suitcase with bread and it goes in the freezer. kelsie
