Okay guys and gals.
When we get to Shallotte we will HAVE to find a place that has good Italian rolls and bread.
I love cooking ......... especially Italian (the wife is Italian) and there is nothing better than a good roll or loaf of Italian bread to help things along.
Willing to travel.

Get all the Del Buono's you can. Italian bread in the triangle is few and far in between. There is a new italian deli and whole foods. Maybe it is time to learn to bake. That is what I did 16 years ago when I loved there.

Yeah, I think it is gonna come down to me learning to do some baking.
I'm gonna be retired and I do love to cook. Plus, Judy says she is done cooking..............
If I could take Sarcone's bakery in Philly with me I'd be in heaven.
So, Pencil................got a good recipe to make a good loaf?

If you find good NY style pizza, let me know.
I'm going through withdrawal.
Rose,
One thing I found in NC/SC is that you have to make sure they make the Pizza WELL DONE. It does help a little.
I'm not too worried about Pizza though cause I make a pretty good pie. Still in the learning stages but it isn't too bad.
Just got to get the dough just right.

All these folks yearning for their NY/NJ style pizza and bread and bagels...you'd think a saavy transplant would open a bakery/pizzeria.
Being from NJ myself and living in N.C. now for over 2 years, I am still going through withdrawal from the food. I miss the NJ/NY cuisine. I miss the real seafood, italian rolls & fresh mozzarella. If someone opens a deli let me know.
Panera Bread. They're an artisan bread bakery. They make very good bread. It is a chain but nothing chain about their products. All baked fresh that day. Deffintley worth checking out.

I've tried their bread, not a huge fan. It's not bad just not the same... Even if their were a deli to open up I think it would taste different because of the water.

Thanks!

I guess that pan-seared sashimi tuna I had yesterday on Water Street wasn't "real seafood". Nor was the grilled red snapper and grits, the catfish stew, the shrimp and grits, the Crawfish boil, or the She-Crab Soup I've had lately. Next time I'm in New Jersey, I'll have to ask them to make me some "real seafood".
With regards to NJprintman's request for bread - I'd be willing to bet that Wilmington has what you're looking for. There are a fair amount of establishments owned by NJ/NY'ers. There's a great pizza joint downtown - NY Pizza - that tastes like the brooklyn style pizza I've eaten in NYC. I don't specifically know of a place that has the bread you're looking for, but if I hear of one, I'll let you know.
