The Mr. Pope job was a gift to repay one of his benefactors. Common in politics. A no-show job so Mr. Pope can get state Benefits
You're very, very wrong about that. Mr. Pope has already been a state legislator, so is getting some state pension, and most notably is one of the richest men in NC; the last thing he needs is state benefits (in fact, he will probably cut them). He is the Koch Brothers of NC politics. I remember when he was a state legislator and "vile" is not really too strong a word. Ditto with Kieran Shanahan who is also a McCrory appointee. There are not "Right-Wing" nor "far-Right-Wing", they are "Extreme-Right-Wing".
And McCrory actually fooled some into believing he had a moderate streak.
I'm still holding out Mecklenburg and Greater Charlotte get some $$$ redirected our way (specifically transportation). If he makes Charlotte happy, his next campaign should be smooth sailings again.
While dismayed at the choice of Art Pope for any position in the public sector, I think Lyons Gray from Winston-Salem, is a wonderful choice for Sec. of Revenue. He has shown himself over the years to be a diligent public servant in both the public and non-profit sectors. He is a class act.
Yes, we are in for a rough ride as McCrory cleans up all the crap that Governor Dumplin' and her predecessor left. Cleanup is never as easy at it was to make the mess. I for one look forward to a state government with a lot less waste.
By waste you mean like spending millions of dollars to vote on a constitutional amendment that bans something that is already banned for no reason other then to spite gay people.

To be fair it's a lot harder to overturn a constitutional amendment. But the waste might be that the Supreme Court is going to decide the whole thing soon.

Before the amendment and after the amendment the group of people most likely to overturn the equal marriage ban did not change at all and that group of people would be the relatively liberal 4th circuit court of appeals and they don't really give two hoots about state law anyway if it is at odds with federal law.
Basically there was no way the NC legislature would vote to change the statute and it is even more doubtful that the NC Supreme court would have. Thus as you noted if anyone is going to do it it is federal judges and they are going to do what they please regardless of whether something is in the state constitution.
I read in the Raleigh News Observer that McCrory poked fun at his "new home cIty" that only got laugh from the Charlotteans who think they're the "center Of the Carolina's if not the eastern seaboard".
I didn't really get the jokes. One being that in Raleigh's government buildings taking the elevators means taking the stairs. I don't get it unless he is calling the buildings small?
Anyway, it seems there are a lot of Charlotteans he's picked from Duke Energy to run things. Then a few from Raleigh and Greensboro.
Does McCrorys pick differ much then previous administrations (as in where they're from). I've never really followed and assumed (for right or wrong) state politicians didn't care so much for Charlotte. I don't know what to expect after hearing horror stories about Art Pope and the other guy who got booted from Wake County education over delaying busses or something.
Hiring people you know for minor positions is commonplace, but for a guy who campaigned on sky-high promises of cleaning things up and doing business differently, it's disheartening to see he's pretty much the empty suit his critics said he'd be. Not that it comes as much of a surprise, though.
Why is Bev Perdue considered a bad governor here? After quick Wikipedia glance, I don't see anything terribly too bad she did, besides the "flight" scandal from 2005. Is there anything else she did that would constitute her as being a failure?
Besides her association with the Jim Hunt wing of the state Democratic party the state legislature after 2010 pretty much ended any hope of getting things accomplished. She probably would've been another mediocre governor like Easley before her, but she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Bailing as late as she did before the last election didn't help either.
Really depending on which color team you root for the praise/blame lies with a handful of state reps like Bill Owens who helped override a few key vetoes the past couple years. And most of them are gone now as well.
I feel this state is in a rough ride for next four years.[/quote]
What have we just been through the last 4 years - a really rough ride. That's on topic.
