Charlotte is so proud of their two mediocre pro-sports teams that have never won a national title, but sorry Charlotte, college sports are still king in NC. Below link from an unbiased source, (meaning not from a Raleigh newspaper )

15 Reasons Why Charlotte Is The Weirdest
"The Bobcats are the only NBA team in Charlotte, but they've got some competition- from Duke and UNC. College basketball rules North Carolina, and even Michael Jordan has a hard time cheering for the Bobcats/Hornets/whatever of Buzz City."

Oh, no!! Hahahaha

How old is this jealous sounding writer for the Charlotte Observer, 90, he must have last been in Raleigh when he was 20 because that's how far back you'd have to go for hanging out at the Char-Grill was cool, haha! Oh, and it's "Raleighites" not "Raleighteans", shows how much he knows, lol !

"A big night in Raleigh is driving out to a cow pasture on the edge of town to watch professional Canadians skate around with curved sticks and beat each other up."

Oh, he must be referring to the Hurricanes, you know, the only pro team in NC to ever win a national championship? Haha!

"It’s that or walking around the Cary mall"

Cary Mall?? Does he mean Cary Towne Center? People in their 90's call it the Cary Mall, how old is this writer for the Charlotte Observer again? haha!

Oh, gawd, thanks for the laugh!!!

But how about a more updated and realistic critique about Raleigh, from say an unbiased source, like from Memphis,Tenn:

When thinking of Southern vacation destinations, Charleston, Savannah, Nashville or New Orleans might come to mind, but some overlooked gems await those who think a little outside the box. Consider one of these Southern cities when planning your next great getaway.

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA

southern cities - raleigh north carolinaSet among gently rolling hills, the capital city of North Carolina is one of three towns in what is known as the Research Triangle, which also includes Durham and Chapel Hill

Live Music Mania

Known as North Carolina’s “Capital of Live Music,” visitors can experience all styles of music at venues such as the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion, Lincoln Theatre and Kings Barcade.

If you’re a bluegrass fan, you’ll be right at home in Raleigh. North Carolina has a rich history of bluegrass—both Earl Scruggs and the legendary guitarist Doc Watson hail from the state. Just last year, the International Bluegrass Music Association announced they’re moving their World of Bluegrass event to Raleigh for the next three years—2013, 2014 and 2015. This year, it will be held September 24-28

Culture and Food

Noted by some as the “Smithsonian of the South,” Raleigh offers a variety of outstanding events and programs at the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Museum of Natural Sciences and the Museum of History.

n.c. museum of natural sciences nature researchAfter satisfying your artistic and intellectual side, enjoy Raleigh’s many culinary treasures. Touted as one of the “top 10 tastiest towns in the South” by Southern Living Magazine, the area is best known for its great barbecue, but a host of other restaurants with unique dishes and world-class chefs are outstanding as well

If you do wish to satisfy a craving for barbecue, two tasty options are The Pit or Clyde Cooper’s Barbecue, both in downtown Raleigh.

Return to Your Inner Student

Three gorgeous campuses are situated in and around Raleigh. North Carolina State University in Raleigh, Duke University in Durham, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Each campus and town has its own charms and unique sites to see.

Well when you go claiming Mayberry is so much bigger and has 90,000 people in their downtown and when in reality, it's a whopping 5,000.... Think you overestimated by 95%

Edit: The writer is Mark Washburn. He does a lot of satire including on Charlotte. He's old and he thinks he's funny. You're reading way too much into it... it's satire.

I mean no disrespect, but this list is highly subjective. Which is ok because judging which art scene is better is subjective. But you don't find this list suspect? In GA they picked the museum of nature and science in Macon over the High Museum of Art or the Georgia Aquarium or the MLK Civil Rights museum. Is Macon more artsy than Atlanta because of this list?

You're confusing me with someone else. I never made any quotes about 90,000 anything.

If Raleigh's Mayberry then Charlotte is Gastonia with taller buildings, lol !
Actually, Charlotte being Gastonia with taller buildings does kinda fit, I think i'll go with that

Mayberry - metro CSA 2,075,000
Gastonia with taller buildings - metro CSA 2,437,000

You see, Mayberry and GWTB are roughly equal in size
