The point is the middle age to elder Caucasian crowd is what lot of republican base is particularly this state. That is why a bunched Gerrymandered themselves in so hypothetically if only 2 people vote, they win their district.
They dont realize how recent tax bill is going to effect them . They will soon will have to pay more taxes for services.
They also going to loose their retirement deductions.

When April 15th rolls around next year and they will likely have to pay taxes they will be thankful.

And why in the world is the race or age of the people who attended the event matter? All the 'Moral Monday' supporters who posted on here seem to go to race immediately, and make fun of them. Please explain how that is not racist.

Looking at the one photo on this thread that was posted on the event so far, it would appear it was attended by mainly elderly people, and there is someone there in a wheelchair. These people are peoples grandparents, and known as the "Greatest Generation". You sound like a bunch of bullies.
I think the OP was an offhand comment, made to indicate the (as it turns out, accurate) crowd at this event would NOT be diverse.

I don't think it was designed to hate on white folks. Or old folks.

I'm not sure why anyone would leap to that conclusion.

I'm an independent. Sooo... I don't really fit into a tidy box, from the whole "choose a side" angle.

And what motivated these senior citizens to attend?

They receive more government entitlements than anyone in the country.

Yes. We pay into the SS system. But, do you honestly think that it's a direct payout?

Between SS and Medicare, do you really think that people are just drawing out what they put in?

If so, I'd urge you to read up on the system.

People who collect welfare also pay into the system. You don't think they NEVER held a job?

Most of the talk about race at Moral MOndays is hyperbole, simply beacuse peopel liek to focus on the camera hog, Rev Barber, but there is a diverse crowd out there. Shows oppoistion to the NCGA is across the board. ANother picture from the rally last night: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...8533045&type=1

Quote:
In case you missed our tweets last night (@ProgressNow_NC) -- we were at the Thankful Tuesday statewide rally called by the NC GOP in response to Moral Mondays. Just under 200 people showed up, about a third of them lawmakers and NCGA staffers. The crowd was white. Average age was probably between 55 and 60. This photo says it all, but we'll post more later anyway. Lots of politicians milking the moment. Lots of assurances to the crowd that they were true patriots. A good portion of the crowd were anti-abortion activists. The speakers were mostly respectful of their opponents, but the rally lacked the feel of unity and empathy of Moral Mondays. One speaker, Tea Party ultra-extremist Bill Randall, who ran against Brad Miller for Congress twice, got downright ugly -- much to the crowd's delight. They woke right up when he suggested people who did not agree with them should "Shut their pie hole" and were not patriots. All in all, it was not the most inspiring or well-attended of events.

^^Yup. That sums up the majority of my thoughts about the intent behind this "rally."

Cannot believe the attitude of most of the posters. One group can rally, but the other can't? What is that all about? Listen to you, unbelievable.

Can they? And I wonder how many got arrested last night vs Monday? Also there are people on both sides on the Moral Monday thread as well, which is why it's the size it is.

No one got arrested on Tuesday. But that should not be a surprise to anyone.

It fits right in with their motto. I've said it before and I'll say it again: "Small government for me, big government for you".

I'm for one am not thankful for what the Republicans have done to this state! Gutting education funding, taking away unemplyment from people who have been unemployed for more than 5 years when there no jobs for them to go to, passing abortion restrictions in an underhanded fashion, and proceeding with a voter ID bill which nothing more than Jim Crow 2.0, b/c it is a way to keep as many minorities and poor people who can't afford to get an ID in the first place from voting! You may be thankful that North Carolina has become a laughingstock and a national joke, but I'm not!
