Try Jacksonville, but you need to identify job prospects before you even think of moving with 2 kids. What are your job skills, and where are you living now?
Close is relative, depending on where you're coming from. What's close to you? The most equidistant major location between ocean and mountains is probably the Triad (Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point) but you're a few hours from each. A little closer to the mountains than the coast.
OP is another of those that seems to be taking a shot in the dark looking for a new state. There are numerous threads for other Southern States / regions that the OP has started, pretty much in the same vein.
I honestly think people just want to move to North Carolina because the state name is so pretty (at least, it is to me!). Haha.

I just mentioned Jacksonville, because the OP could find cheap housing somewhat near the ocean. With the single male population, she also has a chance of finding a husband to help support those kids.

The mountains and beach are about 6-7 hours apart, did you realize?
Don't move anywhere in NC without having a job lined up first. Do you? Have you looked online into prospects?
Virginia also has both mountains and beaches that are closer together than in NC, might suit you better. You haven't said anything about WHY you wanted to move to North Carolina versus any other state? It's a large state with a lot of variety; there is no way anybody can just name a place to recommend without knowing more of your background and what you're looking for.
PS--please don't type in all caps!

Yup, just saw all the Tennessee threads.
OP--if you just want to get away from where you are now, find a JOB first and go where that leads you.

Good thinking, and those men are used to getting yelled at so there won't be any problem.
Even in the scheme of things though, Jacksonville isn't really that affordable since the majority of civilian jobs pay minimum wage or close to it. So unless the OP finds a hubby with a decent rank, BAH and all the bells and whistles, it would be pretty hard to make ends meet!
Unless she wants to live in Town Centre on Onslow Drive of course (former New River apartments). Classy! Haha.
