I thought that HB2 was despicable. That said, Berger didn't want to do a deal. Apparently, the 2 lawyers did a deal. It's not optimum, but it's better than still having HB2 in full force.
Legislators and Gov. Roy Cooper hailed Thursday’s HB2 repeal bill as a compromise. In fact, it is nothing of the kind. It is a betrayal of the promises the governor made to the LGBT community and a doubling down on discrimination by Republican legislators who have backed it all along.
House Bill 142 literally does not do one thing to protect the LGBT community and locks in HB2’s most basic and offensive provision. It repeals HB2 in name only and will not satisfy any business or organization that is truly intolerant of an anti-gay environment and of a state that codifies discrimination.

Get a really good opponent to run against Berger. Then get opponents for every incumbent. That's the only option. Berger publicly stated that he was happy with the status quo.

You are targeting the wrong people, he had no choice and this should be enough for the NCAA and others. This is not a battle that can be won by the libs/dems right now. IBM, etc will assuredly keep the pressure on via background noise but probably content that HB2 is off the books.

They can go pound sand. Cooper didn't have a damn choice but to go along with the compromise. If he hadn't, HB2 would still be in effect and those same groups would still be bitching at Cooper for not raising a finger to get rid of HB2. Not to mention it would give the GOP a big excuse to blame Cooper for derailing a compromise
Everybody that wasn't living under a rock knew the GOP had veto-proof majorities in the General Assembly when they backed Cooper last year and now they're acting shocked at the outcome. Give me a break!
Their bellyaching ain't gonna change a damn thing. If they're pissed off that bad, then they need to vote in 2018 and do their best to help the Democrats retake the General Assembly so that a clean repeal can happen.
They ought to count their blessings that Pat McCrory is no longer governor.
Anyone who thought the powers that be would let a clean repeal go through is crazy and to then turn around and blame those who are working toward changing this that they didn't get to the finish line in one fell swoop is hurting themselves more in the long run.
Agree it is much better to use that pent up anger to work toward running for office or getting people you prefer elected to the general assembly so that the change you want has an actual chance of moving forward. You have a governor amenable to your position, get people he can work with, don't get him tossed.
People don't realize how close we came to a religious "freedom" clause being thrown in this which would have been a whole new world of crap. I'm sure the longer cooling off period was probably part of what they had to give to keep that out of it.

It's just crazy that people think that Cooper could wave a magic wand & fix it 100%. I'd put money on it that the negotiations were between Cooper & Moore, with Moore having to convince Berger to take the 4 year moratorium in lieu of the religious freedom bs. That was something that went back to Berger & Tillis, with the I'm opposed to performing your marriage act.
