How did you get to Spring Lake. If you will be going West, we always stop in Shelby right beside Highway 74 and eat at THE barbecue place there. I can never remember the name of that place, but I know where it is.

I googled "barbecue and Shelby" and came up with Bridges. Sonny's is good almost everywhere too. This Bridges is a local thing and if we are going in that direction, we always find a way to get on that highway and stop by.

I'm with you on that one. Thinking of having my food pre-assembled at a distant location to be heated at my local restaurant is just depressing.

What about Chason's Grandsons? I used to eat at Chason's years ago when they were out by Lumber Bridge. That was some good barbecue.

According to experts the only true NC BBQ is cooked over wood fire. Using gas or an oven is just roasted pork. Can't get wood cooked BBQ in the Fayetteville area that I know about. I was spoiled the last couple years while in Goldsboro. I drove past Wilber's BBQ on the way to and from work.

I have to say that Smithfield's is the exception when it comes to chains. Their barbecue is consistently very good at all locations, and it's cooked on site. Also, their fried chicken is some of the best you'll ever eat, although I admit I don't eat it often because I can't resist the barbecue!

Gotta head east of I95. Greenville, Kinston, Wilson area.

Parker's BBQ in Greenville (and Wilson). I worked there for 2-3 years in college.

B's BBQ in Greenville (better get there early though, they only make a certain amount and are usually sold out and shut down by early afternoon)
