We just moved here this summer and are currently renting in Bethlehem. We would like to eventually buy a house in Hickory but only want to change our kids schools once more. I am looking for pro/cons for Hickory High, St Stephens and Fred T Foard. All have great neighborhoods but we are more interested in the right schools. So far we haven't heard anything good about Hickory High(gangs, rough etc) but this was from people who went there about 10 years ago. We've heard better things about St Stephens and Fred T Foard but again from the same people none of whom have kids currently going to these schools. Any info/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn't matter that these folks have been out of high school for a while. I would suggest you look at Foard or St. Stephens. Things may change but they don't change that much. Trust the locals who know the area and find a home in either the St. Stephens or Foard school districts. Nice communities and high schools. Do your research and find a home that is in an area served by one of the county high schools.

Go to some of their football games and other events this year. Talk to the people. Most people are pretty friendly and willing to talk to strangers.

St. Stephens is not the place to go. Administrators there are the worst. THey want you to do and do and do, but in return do nothing for you.
