Booger Swamp Road or Shacktown Road in Yadkin? How about Cooleemee? Wouldn't these all be a great choice just to use as a return address when sending mail to relatives in Boston or NYC?
2 people mentioned Winston-Salem. That is where I am right now, and I love the city for it's proximity to so many fun activities. Lots of parks, outdoor concerts, and beautiful surroundings. But even better would be Pilot Mountain or Mount Airy for the great mountain views, quieter countryside, summertime beach concerts, and general non-citified amenities.
I'm thinking anywhere on the coast would attract me unless a Hurricane is imminent. But, due to job, I'm in transittion to Charlotte. I really like South Charlotte, and find that my favorite spot is around Lake Wylie. Wonderful area.
But once I finally visit Boone, my favorite place will probably change again!
if i couldn't live in charlotte or near charlotte, i would probably stay in raleigh. my brother was stationed there, and i spent a lot of time in the area. i'm also a little familiar with durham and wouldn't mind living there. people really have me curious about winston-salem though. i have always heard good things about the area. i haven't spent a substantial amount of time there to throw in my input...
i'll tell you also one of the places i wouldn't want to live: fayetteville
I have heard that Asheville is wonderful in seasons, housing, the arts, etc
and have just learned that Boone (yes, after Daniel) is Gorgeous! And affordable!
