Every six weeks you'll be making $5200, rather than $3600 (because you're not getting paid for those two weeks off, I assume). Which means it averages out to an additional $1K per month.

So the question becomes: Is it worth it to uproot my life (and family?) for $1K a month? Will living expenses be low enough that I won't just use that $1K on rent?

ETA: I just noticed that this thread is about a year old.
However, that doesn't change the point that people tend to forget that they're not getting paid for those weeks off, so it's not quite comparing apples and apples. Yes, you'll probably make more, but make sure you're comparing actual income to actual income!

Thats entry level pay. After settling in to the oil patch, pay of twice as much can be had. But you have to be willing to work long hours.

I'm not disagreeing. My point was simply make sure you're comparing apples and apples. Because one thing I HAVE noticed about guys working in the oil patch; many of them tend to be really bad at math!
