WOW! Didn't know if there were ukrainians in ND. Now I do. I am part ukrainian as my mother's parents were born in Kiev and then came to Killdeer to raise their family.

Once they get their visas we have to plan on where we will set up house-keeping and that may well be here in North Dakota. I am sure it would ease my wife's transition if she had someone from her home country to talk to once in awhile.

BTW: My wife is from the Donetsk Region so she speaks predominantly Russian. She tells me she wouldn't be welcomed in the western part of Ukraine but I imagine all that regional differences would be totally forgotten over here.

I am of Poland, it is also a Slavic country, Catholic though. I bought a house in Central ND and moving there soon, Chicago too hot for me, can't stand summers over here. There are many Ukrainians in Chicago, some of them speak FLUENT Polish, like my neighbour Iryna (uffff).

It's not ND, but in Erskine, MN (about 60 miles east of Grand Forks on Hwy 2) there is a community of Russian Old Believers. They have a bakery in town, and farms outside of town. My parents sometimes get fresh vegetables from there.

Hey, very useful thread. I'm glad someone dug it up. My fiance is Russian and she is not too keen on me going to North Dakota, but this might help things a little bit.
