good morning everyone, i'm thinking about moving from the shore area of new jersey to pennsylvania. it's so much cheaper to purchase a home there, and i do have my eyes on a foreclosed home that doesn't need much to fix it up. my question is - can anyone tell me about jessup? what's it like to live there? thanx

Jessup.......predominantly Italian with a smattering of other Europeans and token minorities. Very hilly terrain, within the Valley View school district. Easy access via the new route 6 from I 81 and from I 84 via route 247. Pretty much a typical small pennsy town.

Jessup...pretty much a typical NEPA town, as hal said. A decent, clean town. Nothing special, but not a bad place either. Very Italian, as he said. They have a festival once a year called St. Ubaldo Day, where the Italians run around the streets with huge statues of Italian saints hoisted above them. Apparently, Jessup is the only place aside from a town in Italy that has that festival. I'm Irish, so I never understood it. The only part that would annoy me is that they run around town on the day of the "race" blowing bugles in the streets at around 6 AM.....that would tick me off on a Saturday. But otherwise a quiet non-descript NE PA town.

Although I'm not a fan of Valley View School District, which Jessup is a part of.

Personally, I would rather live at the Jersey shore (as long as its not Asbury Park or Atlantic City). Why do you want to leave there?

Hill Street during the St Ubaldo festival is an absolute madhouse......taking refuge in Chekans bar across from the hose house is the sanest thing to do. I would be po'd too if someone blew a bugle at 6am on a saturday morning. This festival is held Memorial Day weekend.....and the beer tent area is huge.....never enough port-a-potties tho!
