With all of the repetitive "Northern Virginia is the rudest place EVAR" threads around here, I got a good laugh out of the Similar Threads links at the bottom of the page:

I mainly lurk here, but had to share it. I mean, Iowa? Really? LOL (I didn't actually check out the threads themselves; it just made me laugh to see it.)

Besides, I'm a pretty crabby person and a bit of a misanthrope at times and even I find most people around here to be generally nice and friendly. Maybe not "southern friendly", but nice nonetheless. FTR, I live in Herndon (6 years now) and am often in Reston.

(And I tend to agree with normie about the whole jealousy thing.)

Okay, none of those spots (areas the threads concern) have occured to me as being known for friendly and in Charlotte's case it was completely destroyed by Yankees. When put up against SE VA and Louisville in my personal experience NoVA is definitely more rude.

So there you have it, this is really all about jealousy.

If you had a higher paying job and thus could afford to eat out at RTC, then you would be singing a completely different tune. You'd be saying the people who go there are "regular people who live around here, out having a fun time." But since you feel you can't afford it, you choose to say whatever comes to mind--who cares if it's actually true or not, just as long as it will let you sneer at people. Their "crime" is making more money than you do and having the nerve to have a fun time hanging out at a town center. Wow, tarring and feathering is too good for 'em, let's hang 'em.
Yeah right. I know RR outside of here and he goes out to eat during the weekends like anyone normal in NoVA. He just chooses to go other places that offer a better selection than RTC. If he was making more money he wouldn't be even living in Reston. On the jealousy, can you really blame us "poor folk" for resenting those who can blow $300 on fancy chain eateries and smash it in our face and we average folks are just trying to have a decent night out once in awhile on our meager hard-earned wages?

Though I've never personally had a bad experience at RTC, I will take the abruptness of a few NoVa mallrats for less crime any day of the week. Parts of SE VA are crime-ridden and downright scary.

Making over $50,000 a year at age 23 is hardly ''poor folks". Most young people would be VERY happy to make that much money at that age.

Which chain eatery would one pay $300 for dinner? We ate at Clyde's tonight and didn't spend half that amount for two of us, with drinks, wine and dessert! We ate lobster too!

Yeah I think it's everywhere. It's not exclusive to NoVA. You can go to anywhere in the world and see the same thing. I think it's just our materialistic society.

Not referring to the OP, but I notice a lot of people around who complain about the people of the area are the same one's who will talk to you one minute and smile in your face and then ignore and start acting like the same people they complain about.

The OP didn't say what they did, she just said that there were "rude"...... HOW?? are you sure you're not just paranoid or crazy? Were they rude because they weren't nice?... because in my opinion apathy =/= rude

I disagree with this as well. It all depends on how much debt you have. Remember a lot of young people come out of college with mounds of college debt, credit cards and other living expenses. I literally was in this position at that same age last year when I finished grad school with close to that salary. Add on top of this, the cost of living in this area, and $50000 a year is barely just getting by. I only imagine how bad it must be for those low wage workers at those restaurants and retail stores.
