Does anybody have any experience with the Smart Cooling Rewards program from Dominion [Smart Cooling Rewards]? I already have a 7-day programmable thermostat, so I am guessing this program doesn't offer me any additional savings.

Funnily enough, I got the enrollment letter last week for Summer 2010!

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
K

Great topic! I'd like to hear more about this, too.

I have a programmable thermostat, also, and agree with you that I have as much control, or more, over my costs.

We live in Fairfax and received one as well. Even though we have a programmable thermostat, we signed up for the program anyway based on the facts that (a) we shouldn't notice any difference especially since we both work outside the home, (b) we can cancel our participation at any time, and (c) we can use the $40 for a night out to dinner!

I'm confused. Does Dominion offer some type of rebate for a programmable thermostat?

I've been debating joining this also - we do pretty well IMO keeping our utilities under control, but never hurts to save a little more $$.

Thought I'd bring this back up to the top because we just got this notice today and I never heard anything about it. We do have a programmable thermostat too, but didn't know if this was worth it. No cost, so I wonder what there could be to lose. But I'm skeptical lately about any offers in the mail, so thought I'd see if anyone actually has experience with it

As the website states, they will take control and cycle your outdoor compressor on and off during peak hours. Not for me. I have a small house with AC unit small enough to barely cool the home during the hottest days.

The program is a complete joke. $40 (total) for 4 months of them turning your AC off for 4 hours at a time? That's a whopping $10 a month in savings.

If you are interesting in saving money and/or lessening your environmental impact get a programmable thermostat and set it to dial the temp back a few degrees during the times when you are at work and sleeping. This is will save you far more in money and energy. This way YOU control when to turn your ac off (ie when you aren't home) vs dominion shutting your ac off during peak periods (when you want your ac on the most).
