Like I said, on our initial house hunting trip we were seriously running out of time and had to pull the trigger on a place quick.
It's not easy to shop for a new hood when you live 3000 miles away and you basically have about a week to do it.
You can do all the research and home viewing you want on-line, but before you actually get out here and start looking around you're not going to be able to get a feel for what you're really going to like. And then there is the added challenge that you can only put a deposit down on 1 place at a time. It's not like you can slap down a deposit on 4 different potentials you like and see which one approves 1st.

Apparently, they do. The numbers of English Language Learners (ELL) at the elementary schools in South Riding are between 2 and 7% while that number is 32% at Sterling.
Likewise, economically disadvantaged students make up between 2 and 9% of the population at the elementary schools in South Riding while they are 37% of the students at Sterling.
It's not even close to an apples to apples comparison and almost certainly makes for a very different school environment, as the OP has realized.

I didn't make a comparsion; I asked a question. The OP suggested he was looking for a different school environment than he'd find in California and it wasn't clear to me that South Riding is too different from a lot of places in California.
