Shortest: South Riding to Chantilly, about 20-25 minutes during rush hour.

I made it worse by moving to the Middleburg area - about 45 minutes when I leave around 6am.
I shudder to think how long it would take if I left any later than that.

Well, not NoVa, but Glen Ellyn to Oak Park (outside of Chicago), 12 miles, 60 minutes, my longest. Don't know yet as we're moving to Brambleton today! New office in Tysons. I'm suspecting 45 minutes via toll road...

My longest commute was 22 miles but it took an hour and 45 minutes to get to work. My shortest commute is the one I have now. My office is 2.1 miles from my house. On a good day, I get to work in 4 minutes. On a bad day, 10 minutes.

From Andrews AFB to Lockport NY (north of Buffalo) each weekend for 7-8 months to get a permanent military job at Andrews.

After the move to DC area, commuted from Lockport from Cape St. Claire, near the foot of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to Andrews AFB and/or the Pentagon. Time 1 hour plus, depending on traffic, daily for 2 plus years.

Many airline pilots I knew "commuted" from their homes in NY to numerous stateside destinations to start their long- distance/intercontinental flights to other destinations within and beyond the CONUS.

My hat's is off to them - they earned their pay before they even got to their "offices" to start the day.

Longest was a job I had on Long Island. I lived in Centereach and had to commute to Belmont; 45 minutes on a good day, during a snowstorm it took me 2 1/2 hours to get home.

Best is the part time job I have now. It's 2.7 miles from my house. Takes about 6-8 minutes.

Living in VA:

Longest: Warrenton to Herndon. Lasted 15 months until I couldn't stand it any longer and moved to Fairfax. (Though now I work in Springfield, so I've increased my commute yet again!)

Shortest: Herndon to, well, Herndon. I worked on one side of the toll road, rented a condo in World Gate on the other side of the toll road. It was rough!

Living in NY:

Lake Grove to Hicksville. The L.I.E. made me VERY unhappy!
