Los Gatos, Los Altos, Saratoga, Portola Valley, Woodside, Palo Alto. All very nice. The other cities you mentioned are quite congested. Fremont is in East Bay - very hot in summer and more suburban/removed from true Bay Area scene.

Everything is higher here: Fuel, smokes, auto registration...anything to state can tax, they will and do.

If ever you hoped to buy real estate here, NOW is the time. Best buying opportunities in years.

My best friend is Indian - from him I know there is a decent sized community here.

I'm originally from DC and prefer the west coast. Bay Area has a nice mix of cultures, people from all over, so you're bound to find a niche you enjoy.

Ignore the post that said $200K/salary is not enough to live here - - as nice as that would be, it is not necessary to maintain a decent lifestyle.

2150 Russell St Berkeley CA - Home For Sale and Real Estate Listing - MLS #40542954 - Realtor.com® and this is the much less desireable south side! I was in the Blockbuster Video 3 blocks away one Saturday afternoon. t was robbed by two men at gunpoint.

That being said--The Bay Area is DC without the extreme cold and heat. It also has a lot less mid-level, non-essential, government workers. The restaurants are almost always a step above, and other forms of entertainment are better, also. K-12 is a step behind--but if you really want good public schools--go to Cupertino and pay $$$$. (San Ramon might be good, too).
