Are you using realtor.com? Do you have an iPhone or the like? If so, download the app and search for rentals in the 20148 zip code. I see a few when I just checked... I would also use google earth to help get aquatinted with the area. Download the program to an actual computer though, as it gives you a ton more features than the app on a phone..

I think Brambleton and Ashburn as a whole, is a good fit for the OP. Things may get busy soon as this is the time of year many people move (or plan to move) into the area.

Also, whenever you visit Baltimore, there's an alternate route (15N to 70W) if you opt out of the Beltway.

Mexican food is lousy in NOVA compared to NM and CA. Uncle Julio's is decent but the best place I have found Jaliscos, further west in Front Royal or Strasburg (worth a day trip). They really rock:
Jalisco

As others have mentioned though, Salvadorean, Peruvian, Ecuadorean are outstanding here as well as Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, Greek, Middle Eastern, and a bunch of others.

Good luck with the house search and hope something comes up soon!
