I can't answer about the schools but I know others have posted on here that the schools are not very good. I've worked in Front Royal for awhile and I don't care for it at all. It's very outdated and old. I love the area though with the mountains surrounding the area. Warren Co schools may be a little better but those with kids will need to answer that.

We lived in Stephens City which is like 30 mins from Front Royal. DH worked in Front Royal and we decided to live in Stephens City because of the same reason, schools in Front Royal is not that great. I'm glad we decided not to live in Front Royal because of that reason. Good luck!

Front Royal schools are in the same ballpark as Frederick County (VA) schools, no need to commute 30 minutes to avoid them. The system gets a '5' on Greatschools based on its SOL scores, the same as Frederick and Clarke Counties, and compared to a '4' for Winchester City.

From there I'd want to know your preferences, price, job, etc.

I'm pretty familiar with Warren County Schools.

I'd say that it depends on the grade. The real heavy criticism of Warren County Schools seems to be levelled at the Middle School for some reason...

Frederick County Schools seem to have a better word-of-mouth reputation around here, but I don't really see any concrete data to back that up.

As for living there? I'd probably recommend elsewhere. Front Royal is in a really beautiful setting, but the town itself is a bit too downtrodden for my taste I guess.... Stephens City does seem to be where all us newbies to the area congregate.. LOL!!!

Unfortunately, we moved to Orlando, FL. We were there for Apple Blossom though and we will make it a yearly tradition if we can't move back "home". If you know anyone who needs a rental (in 3 mos it will be available), let me know.

Keep in mind that when you here someone driving 30 minutes to/from work around here they could actually be 20-25 miles away. The traffic is considerably less out that way VS NOVA or likely even where you live.
