I don't want to sound like I'm freaking out, we have supplied but I do think we'll probably buy some bags of ice tomorrow and stick them in the cooler (insulin needs to be refrigerated, we lost lots of pens before). Stay safe everyone.

Let's hope most people have already gotten what they need, especially after reading the latest from the Capitol Weather Gang, A fiercer forecast for Hurricane Sandy’s effects on Washington, D.C. - Capital Weather Gang - The Washington Post.

Well that forecast went from bad to horrendous in a hurry. I think I'm going to stay up all night baking cookies and freezing ice.

I always have a dilemma about the best way to keep food cold. When we had the derecho, I lost power for a few days. The fridge temp went up to 65 degrees after around ten hours. (I did keep it closed except for the one time I checked it.)

So I have been making blocks of ice in Tupperware containers in the freezer for a few days. Now my question is this: should I use the blocks of ice in a cooler, or transfer all the ice to the fridge in hopes that it will keep the fridge cold? I have been going back and forth about what would work best.

Hope to get some opinions before my power goes out and I lose my Internet!
Thanks.

I'd keep 'em in the freezer and transfer to the fridge only if/when the power goes out. The fridge is basically a giant cooler with really b---'in air conditioning. Also, it'll be easier to access the food from the fridge than having to dig through the cooler.
