Can someone give me a fair estimate of what the commute is for this. We are looking at houses in the area and would like ideas of what the average commute will be. Also it might be helpful to know the main route and if there are alternates that might get around heavy traffic areas.
Thanks,

Hmmm, it really depends on the time of day but you are probably talking about 30-45 minutes during rush hour, max. There are people that live in South Riding and work in Washington DC. Pan Am, Nutley is about half way, it is very feasible.
If I were going to that area from South Riding in the morning, I would probably go out the back way of South Riding to Braddock Road, take Braddock to route 28 and hop on 66 which will take you right to Nutley. There is HOV on 66 but if you get off at Nutley you will not have to worry about it, it starts after the Beltway. Braddock can get a little backed up at the stop sign by Cox's Farms (we moved from there a year ago, there may be a stoplight there at this point, which would be great!) but it is really fine.
We lived in South Riding for two years, let me know if you have any questions!

This is great news. We will know the specifics of our relocation in the next week or so and will then begin looking for a house out there. We are trying to get a good balance neighborhood/commute. We really want community of sorts with newer homes but within a reasonable distance. South Riding sounds perfect and there were quite a few homes we liked in that area when we were out a month ago. His hours are also flexible so they won't always be Mon-Fri rush hours.

I live out by South Riding now. It takes me about 40 - 50 minutes to get to Pan Am. I work further east on Lee Hwy. Novanative75 is right about taking Braddock (no stoplight yet). But, around 6:50am - 7:15am, there could be some slight traffic with the Westfield kids getting to school. You could also make a right on Pleasant Valley (a little longer) and it will take you out to
RT29 which will take you directly to 66 also. I actually take that on my way home. Braddock can backup at that four way stop heading home.
